Led by Julie Sole, MA; LMHC | Mental Health Professional

PURPOSE: Couples will learn to recognize dysregulation in themselves and their loved ones as well as what they can do to support each other during these times. They will also learn how to connect with themselves, their spouse, and others. We will learn what consent versus submission looks like. Each participant will get a look into how they are or are not setting boundaries. This is a hands-on workshop with horses. Please wear closed toe sturdy shoes with a heel (combat boots/hiking boots typically work great), pants, and t-shirt or long sleeve (no tank tops). There is no guarantee that you will ride or an expectation for you to do so. Previous horse experience not required.

ABOUT EQUINE THERAPY

Equine Assisted Growth Retreat for Couples intention is to instruct attendees healthy and life-affirming tools that develop self-regulation rather than self-medication and bring attention to the need for couples to heal.

In our experiences with veterans and first responders dealing with issues of post-traumatic stress, marital relationships often suffer. To help our clients the Equine Assisted Growth Retreat for Couples will teach them to recognize dysregulation — when they fail to regulate themselves — and provide tools to their spouses to help support them in those moments. They will also learn how to connect with themselves, their spouses, and others. The workshop will also address what consent versus submission looks like and setting boundaries.

Why Equine Assisted Therapy? Sometimes, the stress and emotional damage alters our brain, leading individuals to repeat undesirable and harmful choices. We believe that patterns can be changed, and healing can happen through trauma-focused equine assisted psychotherapy and learning. Connecting with horses teaches people how to engage in relationships that are respectful, kind and loving; where both parties needs are recognized and met. This therapy brings horses and people together in healing relationships.

A hero is an ordinary person who survives an extraordinary experience, and returns to share important truths they learned so they can enrich the lives of others. Our workshops are designed to transform deep struggle into profound strength and personal growth focusing on healthy and life affirming tools that develop self regulation rather than self medication. Those who serve our nation and communities, put their lives at risk, and battle the mental challenges that come with it, should never feel alone. Together we can ensure no one is left behind.

Opportunities to find deeper powers within ourselves come when life seems the most challenging
